Unapproved minutes. Minutes approved at next regular School Board Meeting.

 

The Kensington School Board met on Wednesday, March 8, 2006. In attendance were: Mrs. Dana Donovan, School Board Chairperson; Mrs. Alice Mower, Mrs. Cheryl Camacho, School Board Members; Mr. Paul Flynn, Associate Superintendent of Schools; Mrs. Barbara Switzer; Principal.

 

Mrs. Donovan called the meeting to order at 6:10PM.

 

The minutes of the February 8th  School Board meeting was unanimously approved by the board.

 

Mrs. Switzer gave her report as follows:

·        The KES Times and March Calendar were reviewed by the board.

·        The Jump for Heart program held on February 15th was most successful and raised approximately$2200.00 for the American Heart Association. Mrs. Switzer thanked Mrs. Spinosa for all of her work.

·        Mrs. Switzer noted that Microsociety has begun and will culminate on March 31 with the Microsociety Market Day.

·        The Jump Rope Show is scheduled for Thursday, March 9, 2006 at CMS.

·        The Artist in Residence Program featuring Randy Armstrong will be held at the school from March 10th to March 17th.

·        Tuesday, March 14th is the scheduled town vote for the School Budget.

·        Kindergarten Parent Night is scheduled for March 22nd and the incoming Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28th.We currently have 40 students enrolled for September, 2006.

·        Chris Vallone is working with the 4th and 5th Grade Chorus on a very challenging Musical which will be presented on Monday, March 27th.

·        March 31st is the end of the Third Quarter.

·        The NECAP results will be shared with Administrators on Monday, March 20th and with the public on March 21st.

·        NWEA’s will be given to Grades 3, 4 and 5 in May and will assess student growth from May, 2005.

·        Grade 4 students will take the Science portion of the NWEA this year.

·        Lauren Samans was the KES Spelling Bee Champion this year.

·        KES has one Team competing in the Destination Imagination program at Timberlane High School on Saturday, March 11th.

·        Mrs. Switzer asked approval for the Fifth Grade classes to travel to Boston to the Museum of Science on April 4th. The field trip was unanimously approved by the board.

·        The Student Council is running a school store on Wednesdays

·        Mrs. Mosher is back in grade 1 after her maternity leave and is settling in.

·        Mrs. D’Agostino will be going on maternity leave as of April 14th.  Her plans for next year have not been determined as of yet.

·        Mrs. Switzer noted that purchase orders for the district are now being done electronically and Special Education IEP’s will also be done electronically.

 

Mr. Flynn gave his report as follows:

·        Mr. Flynn noted that SAU#16 Chairs will meet on March15th.

·        The SAU is not overly optimistic about the results of the NECAP. Mr. Flynn gave an overview of the anticipated complex scoring of the tests.

·        Mr. Flynn reported that there is a movement underway encouraging the NH Legislature to address the Student Voucher System for the state.

·        The new high school is still on budget and on time and hopefully will be turned over to the COOP in June. The gymnasium floor is completed and is very impressive.

·        The May 17th Joint Boards Meeting will address the results of the NECAP tests.

·        Mr. Flynn gave an overview of the Financial Report indicating the reasons for line item overages.

·        It was noted that after several testings for the Arsenic levels in our water that

      we will be installing a new filtering system.

·        The Second Review of the following policies was completed:

BIE – Board Member Indemnification

JH-     Attendance, Tardiness and Truancy

JICH- Drug and Alcohol Use by Students


The meeting adjourned at 7:05 PM.
