Kensington School Board Minutes
December 8, 2005
The Kensington School Board met on December 8, 2005. In attendance were: Mrs. Alice Mower, Mrs. Cheryl Camacho, School Board Members; Mrs. Barbara Switzer, Principal.
Mrs. Mower called the meeting to order at 6:52 PM.
The minutes of the November 9, 2005 School Board Meeting were unanimously approved.
Mrs. Switzer gave her report as follows:
o Mrs. Switzer reported that Follies Night was very well received by students and parents and was quite fun.
o Friend and Family Day was most successful this year and enjoyed by all who attended.
o Visioning Forum with parents was held on December 1st. Mrs. Switzer stated she received very positive feedback about the school from parents, students and staff. It was determined that there are priorities which will be looked at after the holidays. Technology, staff stress, and study skills for students will be addressed.
o Mrs. Switzer reported that the Fifth Grade field trip to the Leddy Center for the production of “A Christmas Carol” is scheduled for December 14th and the Third Grade classes will be seeing the Nutcracker on December 16th. The Senior Breakfast is scheduled for December 15 as well as the Holiday Concert
o Mrs. Switzer stated that the school has recently received two grants. One grant is for $5,000.00 for each of the next three years and will be used to build a walking path around the perimeter of the school yard. The second grant is for $9,997.00 and will be used for the Science program.
o The PTO will be collecting monies for the Katrina Relief fund to purchase gifts for the staff of Purvis Elementary School in Mississippi. The staff of KES has asked parents not to purchase presents for staff this year but instead make monetary donations to be sent to the students of Purvis Elementary School on behalf of the KES staff.
o Some of the profits from the Scholastic Book Fair will be used to purchase $250.00 worth of books for Purvis Elementary School.
o The PTO is in hopes of locating a used piano for the music room as well as some kitchen equipment.
o Enrollment figures were distributed to the board.
The meeting adjourned at 7:15 PM.
