Kensington School Board Minutes
November 17, 2004
The Kensington School Board met on Wednesday, November 17, 2004. In attendance were Mrs. Cheryl McDonough, School Board Chairperson; Mrs. Dana Donovan, Mrs. Alice Mower, School Board members; Mr. Paul Flynn, Associate Superintendent of Schools; Mrs. Barbara Switzer, Principal.
Mrs. McDonough called the meeting to order at 6:55 PM.
Monthly manifests were signed and the financial report was reviewed.
The minutes of the October 13, 2004 School Board meeting were unanimously accepted by the board.
Mrs. Switzer gave her report as follows:
o KES Times and November calendar were reviewed.
o Mrs. Switzer reported that KES has completed the NECAPs and that there would be no official feedback from these tests.
o Mrs. Switzer stated that Susan Dees will be here on December 1st for the day and will teach/observe in some classrooms and will meet with staff to look at the Assessment Component of EDM. Mrs. Switzer added that teachers from KES, East Kingston and Newfields will be scheduling dates for Math Grade Level meetings.
o Grade 3-5 teachers met in Brentwood on November 12th to review and assess NWEA Test results.
o Lynn Shade from Tufts University met with staff to discuss their work at the Center for Applied Child Development. CACD will be used throughout the school year on a consultation basis regarding Literacy.
o ML Hanna will meet with staff to discuss Visioning at KES.
o Brooke Petrucelli will set up Technology workshops for KES staff.
o The KES Student Council has had their second meeting and the children are very excited about the new program.
Mr. Flynn gave his report as follows:
o The SAU #16 Chairpersons will meet on December 20th to discuss the 2005-2006 School Calendar as well as the SAU #16 Budget.
o Mr. Flynn noted that the costs associated with the NH Retirement System will increase next year and will impact all of the budgets throughout the SAU.
o Due to the fact that one of the three finalists chosen by the High School Principal search committee has dropped out of contention, the committee has extended the application deadline for thirty days. The committee would like to send three candidates forward to Dr. Hansons committee so will be interviewing through the month of December. Hopefully, a final decision will be made before the February vacation.
o Mr. Flynn reported that the High School building project is moving ahead and the KES building project has just about been completed. A flooring issue is being addressed at this time.
o It was determined that the Public Hearing for the 2005-2006 Budget will be held on January 13th followed by the regular School Board meeting. The Kensington School Districts First Session will be held on February 5th at 7:00 PM.
o A budget workshop will be held on December 8th at 5:00 PM and will be followed by the December School Board meeting.
The board unanimously approved the nomination of Laurie McIntosh for the Occupational Therapist position at KES.
