What is RSS?

RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication, is an easy way to keep up with your favorite news and information sources. An RSS feed contains headlines, summaries and links to full news stories on a web site. You need a news reader program or website to process the data in an RSS news feed that is generally written in a programming language called XML.

If you click an RSS link, you will see XML (or eXtensible Markup Language) code in your browser. This is to be expected, since you are not meant to view the raw RSS feed in a browser window. To view the information, you must add the "feed address" to an RSS news reader program or to a browser site that supports RSS feeds.
