The SAU school districts are committed to working together to achieve common standards and values that will result in graduates who are caring, productive, and contributing members of society.
Now that the official planning process for building the new high
school is well underway, many people are wondering when construction
will begin and when they can anticipate the new school opening. Walter
Pierce, Business Administrator and Project Manager for the new high
school project, estimates the Fall of 2006 as the opening date.
We are now in the pre-construction phase of the project which
consists of two major aspects running concurrently. The first is the
permitting process which involves dealing with local, state, and federal
agencies charged with reviewing our plan for developing the 120 acre
site. One of these agencies, the US Army Corp of Engineers, has a 120
day review period beginning on the day the application is filed. No site
work can begin until this review is complete. Therefore, we are hoping
for site work to begin no later than October/November 2003 and building
construction to begin in April 2004.
Once construction begins, the architect and construction manager
estimate that it will take a minimum of 2 years to complete the
construction phase.
The second aspect of the pre-construction phase is the completion of
the program verification by the architect and school staff to ensure the
best possible layout of the components of the site and building
footprint. Once this program review is complete, final design drawings
can be developed which is the precursor to the construction phase.
Finally, the bond application process is also underway in order for
us to be eligible to participate in a June 2003 bond sale.
