National Youth Service Day in Exeter

From April 15 to 17 youth from all over the country and even the world will be doing service projects in their communities. This is the first year that Exeter will participate in this awesome day of service! Middle school and high school-aged youth from the Exeter area are encouraged to participate in this event to help their community, meet new people, and have fun.

Volunteers will meet at Swasey Parkway at 8:00 am on Saturday, April 16 for a morning kickoff that will include doughnuts and pastries, and then they will be split up into groups and sent off to do different projects around Exeter.

Projects include cleaning town parks, labeling sewer drains to prevent waste dumpage, and brightening the lives of senior citizens at the Exeter Senior Center. The service will end with a trash walk around Exeter around noon. After the walk, youth will return to Swasey around 1:00 pm to eat pizza and have a closing celebration with music and local organizations that are looking for volunteers.

Proper transportation, equipment, food and beverages, and adult supervision will be provided throughout the day, and parents are welcome to come if they would like. The event will end around 3:30 pm at Swasey Parkway. In the case of rain or snow, the day will be rescheduled.

This is a great way for youth to give back to their community, so get involved! Pre-registration is required, so please call Marilyn Kellogg at 775-8466 or email nysd05@yahoo.com to register, get a permission slip, and answer any questions you may have. Forms can also be picked up and handed in at the main offices of the Cooperative Middle School and Exeter High School.
